What Creates Summer Fun? Kids and Art!

Summer is a great time to get your kids involved in art. Here at Create & Celebrate Art, we have you covered.  Whether it is online kids’ art classes or take-home art kits or live “Art in the Park” events, we have it all.

Let’s look at 5 benefits to kids who participate in Art.

1-To draw (no pun intended) out your child’s unique creativity. Our motto is that there is no right or wrong way to do art.  We have gotten called out a couple of times from artists who deal in fine arts, but we are adamant that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  Our goal is to allow each child to connect what is in their imagination to their individual piece of art.

2-Art engages problem solving techniques as they try to create an image that is visualized in their mind with what is reality in their hands.

3-Fine motor skill development occurs every time a child engages in art.  What exactly are fine motor skills?  Well, it is the development of the smaller muscles in our hands.  A finished art project requires a number of independent skills to come together to create a finished product.

4-Visual Spatial Processing is another area of development that happens through art.  This is the ability to tell where objects are in relation to each other.  In many of our online classes, we talk about Perspective.  A great example of Perspective has to do with where the artist is (sitting, standing, overhead) when creating a landscape.  Is the painting drawn from an arial view, a seated view, or a standing view? Or, it could be the fact that the closer the object, the larger the object.

5-Rest and Relaxation is the last benefit that we will talk about in this blog post.  Although there are many more benefits that we could include.  Have you ever sat down at a restaurant and used the crayons from the kiddie menu to color on the kiddie menu or color on the napkins?  Try it sometime and see how it relaxes you.  It will! We were privileged to be a part of the Frederick County Sheriff’s Department Youth Camp this year.  This is a great program that provides a weeklong camp for kids packed full of great activities.  Create & Celebrate Art worked with the School Resource Offic Division to come up with an art project that would be fresh and new but also would provide a take home memento of camp that they could look at all year to remind them of the good times they had.  It was an 18” long wooden surfboard with paints and templates so that each camper could create a personalized board unique to them.

The kits included a board, five paint colors, painters’ tape for stripes, paintbrush, sponge applicator, and three different templates for design.  Finally, magic markers could be used to add their name in whatever font they chose. This was a hit for sure!

As we finish up this blog ,won’t you consider checking out our offerings on our website and get your kids involved in an art project?  I guarantee they will Create and Celebrate!

Have a GREAT Summer!
