I started researching and painting a series of World War 2 Women portraits for an upcoming art show at The Lodge in Lake Frederick. It all began when I painted a whimsical acrylic painting of my grandmother from the 1940’s. On a whim, I entered this acrylic on paper into a local museum “call for art” and it was chosen to be included in the show. I was thrilled! But I was even more thrilled when I took the piece in to the museum and told that it had already sold! There is nothing more exciting to an artist than to have an original work sell.
Here is a preview of an WW2 Woman ambulance driver from the United Kingdom. The inspiration for this painting came from a poster displayed in a U.K. Museum for WW2. I hope you enjoy the irony of this original painting.
This woman left her home and family to serve as an ambulance driver as a way to help her country during the war. She, I am sure, saw so many horrible images; but she was determined to remain true to herself as she put on her lipstick while in uniform.
